A three pronged aquarium light timer is ideal for a fish tank. Hook it up to the light ballast plug. Make sure it is above the ground and the cord twisted in the shape of an O so that water can drip off of it instead of into the plug of the aquarium light timer.
A simple aquarium light timer is sufficient for even the most elaborate tank set ups. A digital aquarium light timer with multiple fixture commands may be useful for adding additional aquarium items such as a skimmer.
