Network Troubleshooting Facts:

When you have lost your internet connection but you know that you have a working NIC (network interface card)and router. What you should do is open a command prompt. At the command prompt type ipconfig /all[enter]. This will display a complete list of all IP address used by your machine including your machines IP and the Router gateway IP. If your machines IP address {xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx} starts out with {168.xxx.xxx.xxx} or {169.xxx.xxx.xxx} you have to force your DHCP server to reassign the IP address. to do this you type ipconfig /release[enter] then you type ipconfig /renew[enter]. After you do this retype ipcongig /all[enter] and check the IP address. If the process worked the address should start with a number in the 190's {192.168.xxx.xxx}. Good luck.
