Keeping an extra sponge filter in the fish tank is great for not only extra filtration, but it also is great for setting up a quarantine tank. By removing the extra filter which is already filled with bacteria and placing it in a fresh 10 gallon quarantine tank the filter is already removing waster without having to wait for the tank to cycle. Cycling tanks are dangerous for sensitive or stressed fish.
